THE INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY (Paragraph)
The 21" February is a memorable day in our national life and history. Every year we celebrate me profound respect. The heroic sons laid down their lives for the sake of their mother tongue. Then Pakistani rulers imposed a rule that 'Urdu' would be the state language of East Pakistan. But the heroic sons of our country protested against the declaration. They broke section 144 and brought out a procession.
The upon the procession and shot fiercely. Many students died. Since then the 21" February is observed as a 'Shaheed Day'. On this day we go to the Shaheed Miner bare footed and offer flowers and wreaths on the anan. We wear black badge and sing, 'Amar Bhayer Raktey Rangano Ekusey February.' National dailies bring out special supplements on this day. Bangladesh Betar and different TV channels telecast different programmes. Different organizations arrange programme on this day.
In 1999, UNESCO declared the day as 'International Mother Language Day. Since then it is celebrated globally. The UNESCO declared it to give recognition of the martyrs and a respect for every mother tongue. Really it is a great achievement for our nation.

আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস আমাদের জাতীয় জীবনে এবং ইতিহাসে ২১শে ফেব্রুয়ারি একটি স্মরণীয় দিন। গভীর শ্রদ্ধার সাথে আমরা প্রতিবছর দিবসটি উদযাপন করি। আমাদের বীর সন্তানরা মাতৃভাষার জন্য তাদের জীবন উৎসর্গ করেছিল। তল্কালীন পাকিস্তানি শাসক একটি আইন জারি করেছিল যে, 'পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের রাষ্ট্রীয় ভাষা হবে উর্দু। কিন্তু আমাদের বীর সন্তানরা এই ঘােষণার বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদ করে। তারা ১৪৪ ধারা ভঙ্গ করে এবং একটি মিছিল। রে করে।
পুলিশবাহিনী মিছিলের উপর ঝাপিয়ে পড়ে এবং নির্বিচারে গুলিবর্ষণ করে। এতে অনেক ছাত্র মারা যায়। তখন থেকে ২১শে ফেব্রুয়ারিকে ‘শহিদ দিবস' হিসেবে পালন করা হয়। ঐ দিনে আমরা খালি পায়ে শহিদ মিনারে যাই এবং বেদিতে ফুল ও শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করি। আমরা কালাে ব্যাজ পরিধান করি এবং গাই আমার ভাইয়ের রক্তে রাঙানাে একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি। জাতীয় পত্রিকাগুলাে এ দিনে বিশেষ সাময়িকী বের করে।
বাংলাদেশ বেতার ও বিভিন্ন টিভি চ্যানেল বিভিন্ন অনুষ্ঠান সম্প্রচার করে। বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠান এ দিনে অনুষ্ঠানের আয়ােজন করে। ১৯৯৯ সালে ইউনেস্কো এ দিবসটিকে ‘আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস' হিসেবে ঘােষণা করে। সেই থেকে এটি বিশ্বব্যাপী উদ্যাপন করা হয়। শহিদদের স্বীকৃতি ও প্রতিটি মাতৃভাষার প্রতি সম্মান জানাতেই ইউনেস্কো এই ঘােষণা করেছিল। সত্যিই এটি আমাদের জাতির জন্য একটি বড়াে অর্জন।
